“How and why did you begin writing?”
Actually I began taking writing seriously after the overwhelming
response to my blogs.  My original intent was to express my views on
various topics that impact society as a whole, but I decided to take my thoughts and collectively put them in a book.  Mainly writing started as
an outlet for the pinned up energy and opinions that I wanted to share
with the world.  I felt and still feel that there is not enough literature,
either self-help or otherwise that contributes to the well-being of the
African American community.

“How many hours a day do you devote to writing?”
“Well, it varies because I am a full-time internet marketing manager as well as mother.  So I usually work in “binge sessions” where I sit down and write for several hours.  I may go weeks after that without doing anything but jotting down notes, so it varies.”

“Describe the setting when you write.”
“Ironically, I write best when there is a little noise going on.  I generally
like to write alone, mostly because I talk to myself…lol; however I am comfortable taking my laptop to the playground and writing while my
daughter plays.”

“What is your favorite chapter in your book, and why?”
“The chapter on Family and Raising Children is the one I am most
passionate about.  I think the African American community is very
much lacking guidance or at least dialogue about raising our most
important asset, which is our children.  My second favorite chapter is on Employment. I think our behaviors in the work place range from funny to downright disturbing.  That chapter was fun to write.”

“What writers do you admire most?”
“Really I admire any artist that has the nerve to get out in front of an
audience, whether on paper or in any form and express them selves.
I have respect for people who are not afraid to make a impact on others.”

“Do you think that success will change you?”
“Well, I hope only for the best.  A lot of people say that money or
success would never change them, but it really is inevitable.  Will I
always be respectful and concerned about those who are near and
dear to me? Yes.  Will I always have the same taste, hang at the same places or with the same people?  Maybe Not. I have experienced success in other areas of my life, so I have really come to expect if not demand it.  I plan to always be down to earth, while still enjoying the fruits of my labor.

“What advice would you give to an aspiring writer?”
“Write as much as you can. Write about what you know. Use an outline format to plan your book. Buy a laptop, but a pencil and notepad are a
good start. I still like to use pencil and paper. Try not to buy into the idea of writer’s block, and just jot down notes if you feel like complete thoughts are not flowing.  If I get stuck at a certain point in my writing I just skip ahead to another part and return later when my vision clears. If you have the time, energy and resources, self-publish.”

“What’s next for you? Will you do a follow up to your first book?”
“I am not positive yet.  There are so many topics in this book that could
spin off into other things.  I am interested in expressing my thoughts
about a fresh perspective on relationships, but I am just about to ride
the wave that the current book takes me on.  Stay tuned!."
